The Summerhouse

Arne and his family have a nice restored  house dating from 1860, situated in the midst of the Central Massive volcanoes of the Auvergne (Fr). The house can be rented on a weekly bases to family’s, friends, musicians, artists and anyone who wants to explore and enjoy the pure authentic and pristine landscapes of the region.

The house is situated in La Chasteau close to the small village 15400 St. Hippolyte (1100m) in the 'Vallée de Cheylade', one of the five valleys of the massive volcanic landmark, the 'Puy Mary' (1789m), at the heart of the regional natural reserve of the volcanoes of Auvergne.  

The region is well known among nature lovers for its exceptionally preserved flora and fauna. Hikers find their taste in many walks and trails along volcanic lakes, waterfalls, mountain rivers, beautiful carved valleys, peaks and 'Route des Crêtes'.

Absolute highlights are the Massif of the Puy Mary, Plomb du Cantal, Lac Pavin, Plateau of the Cezallier, Chateau de Val in addition to the countless very sympathetic small spots and villages such as Besse, Salers, Riom ès Montagnes, Murat, Lac des Cascades of Cheylade , La Font Saintes, etc.

For sports enthusiasts, numerous routes have been developed everywhere for hikers, cyclists, VTT and mountain bikers, in addition to the specially developed bike parks for downhill sports, hiking trails and sports activities in the ski stations of Super Lioran and Super Besse. The specially issued Chamina hiking and sport booklets, hiking and topographic maps are available at the house.

Accommodations

  • fully equipped kitchen with 5 plate cooker, oven, micro wave and fridge (no dishwasher)

  • modern bathroom with bath-shower, toilet and washing machine

  • 3 bedrooms with good modern beds and and high quality mattresses (2 double, 2 solo)

  • baby bed (120x60)

  • under the large wooden roof and trusses in the attic there is also a sleeping area with a double bed and a bunk bed (only available during the summer)

  • stereo, radio, cd, tv and video, no internet but mobile network accessible by G4 network

  • garden furniture and lounge seats, barbecue set

  • nice open air swimming pool centre at Riom ès Montagnes (5 km from the house) next to wild swimming only in Summer at lakes such as Lacs de Lastioulles, Lac des Cascades, Lac de Bort-les-Orgues at Chateau de Val.

The house is located in La chasteau a hamlet of 3 houses, within the commune of 15400 St Hippolyte. Bakers and a small supply store can be found a mile away in the village of Apchon or Cheylade. For general groceries and all necessary other shops such as department stores, pharmacies, specialty shops, you have to rely on the small mountain towns of Riom ès Montagnes or Murat. The most interesting open air market is on Friday morning in Murat next to the more modest Saturday market or biweekly market on Wednesday in Riom ès Montagnes.

For general and specific information or activity calendar about the numerous village festivals, regional product fairs or flea markets, it is best to go to the Tourism Office opposite the church of Riom ès Montagnes and during the summer also at the tourist office on the Puy Mary.
